My Painting of Hairy Woodpeckers

We have had a pair of Hairy Woodpeckers at our feeder all winter. For this work, a heavy coat of modeling paste was brushed on a 9 X 12 canvas. A light wash of Burnt Sienna followed by a light scraping with a pallet knife produced a nice background. The painting was completed with a  # 14, round brush.

Seeing the posted paintings makes me regret not bringing my paints to Florida. I am enjoying the portrait drawing, but the colored pencil classes are pretty full. Since I hadn’t played golf in eleven years I did a lot of “pick ups”. But I did hit a crane on the seventh hole…is that a birdie???
