Paper-mâché Photos Added

I have put the paper-mâché sculptures photos on the Sculptures page and a brief description on how these sculptures were made is on the way.

Update on Student Works Tab

Check out the Student Works page for more photos.

Armand B. finished his collie.  Nice job Armand!

Nancy S. (experienced artist) finished her first work in this class and began a seascape for her next painting.

Mike H. began his forth painting, a landscape, using bold complementary colors for the under painting.  Keep an eye on this one!

Les M. is closing in on the completion of his third painting.

Tom L. has started his third painting, a portrait of his home after a heavy snow.

Deb T. (new artist) has a good start on her first painting.

Is great to see these painters trying new materials and methods and seeing the good progress they make each week.

New painting process added for The Rivers Bend

I have just completed a quick painting of a fall scene of a river and trees. This is a departure from my usual style, and is loose and impressionistic. I like trying different approaches to painting, and like some of the results when I do this.

Click here to see the painting process for The River’s Bend.

We will be making some minor changes to the site this week to help you move around a little easier. There will be a new page coming soon, showing several paper-mâché sculptures I created in the 1980s.

Another Painting Completed by Student

Mike H. completed his third work at the painting class in the Ingram Senior Center, Salem, N. H. today. The work is acrylic on canvas, 16 X 20. Mike’s painting can be seen under the Student Works tab. Great job, Mike!

There will be more art work coming from these very enthusiastic, emerging and experienced artists in the next few weeks.

More Student Work Added

More student works has been added. We are now showing how their work is proceeding in a series of photos that shows the good progress that new artists and experiences artist are making in the class. We will keep adding photos so you can track their successes.

Surface Preparation for Masonite Panels Added

I just put the instructions and photos of how I prepare Masonite panels for painting. There are two parts to this process. The first produces a surface with thousands of tiny peaks and depressions; the second step takes this a little further and produces a velvety smooth surface with microscopic pits that is great for washes and scumbles. This all looks and sounds like a lot of surface preparation, but believe me; it’s great to paint on.

The canvas preparation steps will be coming in a week or two.

I Have Added Two Paintings Completed in 2010

Two new paintings have been added on the Paintings 2010 page. You can also go to the bottom of the Paintings page and click the link to get to these. There are two more work coming soon. One a landscape and the second a painting of Swamp Loosestrife, a water plant I found while kayaking last summer.

New tab for Student Works

I began teaching painting lessons at the Ingram Senior Center in Salem, New Hampshire in August, 2009. These lessons offer the center’s members a chance to work with acrylic paints and explore the possibilities of this medium. The goal for the emerging artists was to complete a small work within the first few weeks.

With their kind permission, I have included some photographs of their paintings on the Student Works tab and will add more as time goes by. We hope you enjoy seeing their good work! As always, your comments are welcome.

Painting Process Just Updated for September Beets

I just finished updating the painting process for September Beets.  I’ll be writing about the landscape that I am working on now. This landscape is more of an Impressionist work than the other two paintings, and uses a completely different method of painting than the last two works.

I have also been teaching a weekly painting class at the Ingram Senior Center in Salem, New Hampshire since August. By mid-January, I will have some photographs of the paintings that these new, emerging artists have completed. I am also working on the preparation of Masonite panels and canvas for the Tools and Methods tab. As always, your comments are welcome.

More Ship Model Photos Added

I have added a few progress photos on the installation of the running rigging for the Sir Edward Hawke. More detailed text and photos coming in the next few weeks.

I have also started a large fall landscape painting which will be featured in an ongoing Painting Process page. This painting shows another way to work with acrylic paint in a loose and free style. This will be updated often as I work on the painting. As always, comments welcome. Don
